 Festival of the Lights

A fairyland of 500,000 sparkling lights envelope the walkways of the Hawke’s Bay A&P Showgrounds this Summer season.

Starting on Saturday 17 December 2011 and going every night until Saturday 7 January 2012, you’ll see diving penguins, jumping fish, spurting whales and a host of colourful sea creatures amidst thousands of dancing fairy lights animated precisely to music.

The lights are turned on after dark at 9.15pm and then the wonder begins for young and old alike. We’re open every night, rain or shine including Christmas night and New Year’s Eve.

Imagine watching world-class movies in an open air cinema. Imagine no more – Black Barn’s Open Air Cinema is back!

The amphitheatre at Black Barn is the perfect venue with wonderful views, generous seating and a unique atmosphere. Get a group of friends together and experience an unforgettable night of film. Come early and enjoy the sunset, food, music and wine.

The amphitheatre has wide, flat, grassed terraces. There is no allocated seating. You are welcome to bring rugs, pillows and low beach chairs. A varied section of food, sweets and beverages will be available. Please feel free to bring your own picnic but as space is limited, please refrain from bringing chilly bins and large bags.

Black Barn’s liquor license stipulates that no alcohol is to be brought into the venue, however there will be alcohol available for purchase on-site.

Gates open at 7.30pm and the session starts when dark (approx 9pm).
